A Tint Glass Coatings Ltd (now Coatek Ltd) has a very long relationship with Woodies DIY. Having carried out extensive work on their head offices they now had a requirement to help them with a problem they were having with some of their stores nationwide.
The design of most of their stores means there are large glazed areas adjacent to the tills and checkouts. While this is very impressive and keeps the stores very bright there is a significant problem with glare on both staff at the checkouts and information desks and with customers who are paying for their goods. They brought us on board to find a solution, reduce the glare with a film that does not darken the stores! We visited each store and carried out our research and came back to management with a couple of solutions. To make the decision process easier we installed a couple of samples so that the staff could monitor the effect of the film at various stages of the day. Very quickly two types of film were chosen, Panthera 285 for the upper windows of each store and a lighter Panthera 265 for the lower panels where the glare was not as big a problem. The panels were almost 3 metres high and 1.5 metres wide and we installed all of them in one piece.
As Woodies stores are always notoriously busy it was our brief to cause minimum disruption to customers. This we did and we fitted in excess of 10 stores without one complaint to management or staff.
The staff now operate the tills with far more comfort and there are no customers unhappy because the sun is blinding them as they pay for their goods.
